The Calla has beautiful, large, white, durable, and waxy white blooms and it is nearly odorless. It has large clumps of broad, arrow shaped dark green leaves. Calla captures the lush folds and surface texture of the stiff, waxy bract (a colorful modified leaf) that enfolds the phallic cob of flowers known as a spadix. Who said botany isn’t sexy?
Originating from southern Africa, it is a perennial bulb plant. Its preferred habitat is in streams and ponds or on the banks. The inflorescences are large and are produced in spring, summer and autumn.
The calla is a long stem: 60-70 cm.
