Even when this plant isn't in bloom, it offers very attractive leaves that resemble those of a banana plant. The bird of paradise plant, Strelitzia reginae, is native to subtropical areas of South Africa. It was first introduced to Europe in 1773, when it was grown at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Since then, it has been widely introduced around the world.The bird-of-paradise leaf is a large stem: 80-90 cm.
